Updating an installed program

Updating an installed program

Postby jraahm on Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:39 am

How do I update a program that has already been installed via the monitor module?

Let's say I have installed the latest Firefox browser via the monitor module.
A month later there is an update to the browser.
I download the update executable to my desktop.
Then I highlight the installed program in the monitor module and click the update button.
TU goes thru it's process and at one stage asks where the update executable is.
Once the path to the executable is shown, TU completes the process and the update is complete.

The question I now have is - how to update a program, if there is no update executable?
Some programs do not give you an executable to download but instead updates the installed program directly.
In such cases, does TU still monitor the update install?

Grateful for a reply!

In TU use the same "Update" button to start the monitoring process and create the pre-install (pre-update in this case) system snapshot.
Start the update process and wait to finish it. You must be able to control manually the update so this will start after you have the pre-update system snapshot created. Then from TU interface press the "program is installed" to finish like usual.
