Scan/Compare

Scan/Compare

Postby Virago » Thu Apr 29, 2010 11:41 pm

Hi,

got 2 questions:

1) What's the difference between "Add to scan exclude list" and "Add to compare ignore list" ??
I probably know what it exactly does but what's the real use of one over the other ?

2) I know the Undo/Redo purpose but what does the "Depth" stating mean ?

Thank you

1.
The "Add to scan exclude list" affects the unlocked scanning profiles (path is added to Scan exclude list).
The "Add to compare ignore list" affects the unlocked scanning profiles (path is added to Compare ignore list).
In the scanning profile, you can't exclude a single file/value, only folders/keys. So you must use the ignore list from the comparing profile for a file/registry value to do not appear in the final log. The combination of these lists and profiles depends of your imagination. You can create many compare profiles, and this is a feature and not a limitation. You are not forced to use it.

2. The depth means that the redo/undo is applied not only for the selected item but for the selected items and all children down recursive (the entire sub-tree).

Everything clear.
One more question: when a scanning profile is locked the entries within it do not count when you scan ??

Actually it would have been good to just add items to the program's "Default" profile and being abled to undo them altogether with one click or maybe the possibility to create another "Default" profile and make it customized at will

I am still not clear as to the pros/cons of using only the "Add to Scan Exclude List" or "Add to Compare Ignore List" or both together.

For example, I have several monitored program logs that contain registry keys and folders that I would like to exclude from future logs.
1. Would I add these to the "Add to Scan Exclude List" or "Add to Compare Ignore List" or both?
2. Furthermore, how do I exclude those keys and folders from being modified if I uninstall a program that have those keys and folders already in the installation log?
