Set up new Workstation

Set up new Workstation

Postby pereh » Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:51 pm

Hello,

I will install a new workstation soon. When is the right moment to install/use TU (I think after installing OS)? And when should the scan-exclude/compare-ignore list entries be created? As far as I can see for now, these lists must be checked and/or modified after every single install.

Best regards,
Peter.

The ignore/exclude lists depends of the installed programs.
On a clean system the default scanning/compare profiles that are created at the moment of TU installation are normally enough. As long as more background programs are installed then the changes made by these are recommended to be ignored/excluded but are never critical.

Hello,
thanks for your answer. But I still wonder if background activities (version checking, incremental backups, PDF-queueing etc.) for programs installed after TU installation might interfere with a new monitored installation. Of course these activities should not touch data areas for installations, but one can not be sure...
(B.t.w.: if I ever came across a programm crying out for a user manual.... )

Best regards,
Peter.

As long as you don't have viruses on your system the monitored installation will not be affected by background processes. And if will be there is no problem, is part of the installation, is monitored and can be reverted. Some background changes can be caught in the monitored program log but these can be eliminated and avoided in the future. These can be easily spotted in the log if you want. If you don't care is not a problem.
Of course, don't monitor the folders containing the destination of your backup.
