I have come to point where I am updating programs that were installed prior to using TU. There doesn't seem to be a way to analyze an Installed program and convert it or move it to the Monitored list. I can install the update as a monitored application but that gives me two different listings with two different changes. I can always delete the earlier listing but that seems like I am losing valuable information.

What procedure would you recommend or is it possible and I just am missing that instruction somehow?

My recommendation is to not move the log files, even these are compatible and moved from Installed programs into Monitored programs will be listed there.
Just monitor the update in the Monitored programs module and re-analyze the program in the Installed programs module.
When you want to uninstall then uninstall the update (monitored) and then the analyzed entry.
