Cannot run tu.exe - "Exception EParserError..."

Cannot run tu.exe - "Exception EParserError..."

Postby Totally Uninstalled on Wed Jun 09, 2010 4:37 pm

Registered user, latest version. For no apparent reason, each time I tried running TU, I'd get this error:

Exception EParserError in module Tu.exe at 0016A9F3.
Invalid file format.

I downloaded the latest version again, but it will not install. Once I select a language in the installer, I get the same error after setup runs its own copy of Tu.exe.

Please advise!

The problem was a corrupt "Program Options.dat" file. Some shit application I had been using apparently terminated tu.exe, and that resulted in the corruption. Now, why would killing tu.exe result in a corrupted "Program Options.dat" file? I don't know. Why doesn't TU put up a nice error message when this happens? I don't know.

What I do know is that I have spent hours carefully adding exclusions and other tweaks to my TU configuration, and I am incensed that my options file is screwed up. Very angry indeed.

I would like to see a such corrupted file, if possible. Maybe I can find a way to avoid the corruption.
Please send the file to support if you have it (from Recycle bin?)

Total Uninstall should select automatically the profile that will launch first the standard uninstaller of the Daemon tools. This uninstaller should ask you to reboot. After reboot TU will start automatically and you can continue to finish the uninstall removing the remaining items.
If you used the "Total Uninstall" profile the standard uninstaller is not used. TU will send the stop command to Daemon Tools services. Probably these doesn't handle properly the command and crash the system.

hi gavrila,
yes, that's fine, i'm also aware of much other problems with daemon tools, not your fault.
in my case yesterday, daemon tools uninstaller didn't execute so i let tu uninstall anyways & whereof my bsod (my mistake)

although, you could look into why the option.dat gets nuked, i'd be happy, luckily i back up options timely,
this occurred on win7 x64 with latest daemon tools & latest tu

feature request: export\import settings would be nice, (you could exclude the updater & registration of course)
i have trained tu very well & would be quite upset if i lost my settings on such error, again my error :|
